"I am surprised that the previous reviewer only rated this CD with a "4." I lived for 6 six years in Houston, and listened to cajun and Zydeco shows every weekend morning (broadcast FM out of various locales in Lousiana), and out of all of the cajun/Zydeco music that I have heard, I find the two versions of "Madame Sosthene", especially, the closing theme, to be some of the most hauntingly beautiful music that I have ever heard. I say that if you must have a Michael Doucet/BeauSoleil CD ... this is the one to have."
Not the soundtrack

"I ordered this and sent it back. If you're looking for a soundtrack of "Belizaire the Cajun," in particular the opening and closing song, this doesn't have it. Sure, it has the song but not the performance and not the version you heard and enjoyed in the film. The film version was passionate and rhythmically complex, syncopated. The CD version is shorter, quieter, rhythmically feeble and about as passionate as a lullaby for patients in a dyspeptic ward. I got my money back for misrepresentation.
