CD Reviews

Cleveland Rocks

(5 out of 5 stars)

"It is difficult for me it pick the best Michael Stanley Band album but if someone put a gun to my head and forced me, I guess that this would be it. Northcoast has some of MSBs best. "In the Heartland" discribes the life of young adults better than any book on the subject, even if you don't know the locales mentioned in the song. "Somewhere In the Night" is the best loved and lost song I've ever heard. "Tell Me" puts the importance of communication in a relationship in the proper perspective. "Chemistry" is a great anti-drug song. "Let's Hear It" describes the life of a working musician to perfection. Michael, Kevin, Bob, Tommy, Gary and Michael G. create the perfect mood for each song with their right-on arrangements. The solos are just right, not too much, not too little, and the obvious chemistry between the players is unmatched. The Michael Stanley Band may be relatively unknown but to those of us who know and love their music, they are superstars."
Great Songwriting, Great Band, Even >20 Years Later

"OK, I just reviewed the Tangiers album (see my comments there), and wound up plugging this, because it is indeed one of my most favorite, and I'd argue best by anyone ever, albums of all time. And I'm not even from Cleveland! So if you're reading this review and considering whether or not to buy it, there is NO option. This is a MUST HAVE. Price is not a factor. You'll thank me later. The lyrics on these songs create vivid images; great novelists don't do any better even outside the restriction of putting words in a song. The band is tight and the musicianship is first class. The production is excellent, especially after all these years. It doesn't sound primitive or dated at all. (Now I did come across a video of MSB around this era...uh, we won't talk about the clothes, because we were all guilty of fashion crimes in the early 80s. That would be the only criticism anybody could ever direct at these guys.) So I wish Michael would go on tour and come to Texas, but people here don't have a clue. Maybe someday I'll head back to the Midwest. But before I book a flight, I'll look to see if he gigging, and plan a trip around that."

"I heard this cd a few years ago and it changed my life. Words are well written and the whole combination of the music and words really gave me a renewed belief that there was a group that was well worth listening too ! Well worth ten times the money !"
