CD ReviewsMel Rhynes best so far.... Anders Jonasson | Bankeryd Sweden | 07/19/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "Firstly, what can possibly go wrong when Bernstein is there. He is ubelievable ..... Anyway I have not heard Mel Rhyne swing like this before, Billys Bounce is a"cool cooker" same thing with "Hi Heel Sneakers". In a way it sad that Mel Rhyne sems to be more wellknown here in Europe than in his home country, but we can only say a sincere thanks to Gerry Teekens at Criss Cross records in Holland for giving Rhyne the opportunity to record as much as he has the last couple of years. It is never boring to listen to Rhyne he always have some interesting chords or licks that he "throws in" here and there, and he of course goes very well together with Bernstein, they have both the same way of creating a "diminshed mode" on whatever they play that mostly gives a "beatiful touch" to whatever they play. By the way, check out Bernsteins solo on "Teach me a song" he plays with such a confidence..... and do not forget Mels solo on Montgomerys "Fried Pies" I think I am getting close to become a real Mel Rhyne "buff""
