Album Description2010 two CD collection. This is the first time that any kind of anthology has attempted to bring together the output of the Melodisc label of Hollywood, including material which has never been on CD before. Melodisc thrived briefly during the years following the end of WWII, when post-victory euphoria helped generate an intense jazz scene in Los Angeles. The burgeoning bebop scene competed with the R&B-styled swingers and honkers to create a an exciting and dynamic musical landscape, and amidst this musical maelstrom Daniel F. O'Brien set up Melodisc records on Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard and made about 40 records in an 18-month period during 1945 and '46, which are a unique snapshot of what was happening in LA during that time.
