CD ReviewsWelcome Back, Melba!!! Malridge Mace, IV | New York, NY United States | 04/14/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Melba Moore returns to form with an inspired 10 song cd of original gospel hymns, ballads and mid-tempo numbers. Appropriately titled, "I'm Still Here" shows the singer still has what made her so endearing to many. Despite any shortcomings other offerings prior to this cd may have, the singer seems to have taken the (constructive) criticism of previous mediocre material to heart and released a five-star quality project. Excellent production that runs the gamut from contemporary to traditional, excellent arrangements and of course, excellent singing from one of the darlings of TV, stage and radio. Alternating collaborative efforts between singer Shirley Murdock (also check out that artist's gospel outing) and, unknown to this writer, Herb Middleton, Ms. Moore swoops, soars and shines on numbers such as "Call Me" "Lamb of God" and the invigoratingly funky "Champions." Ms. Murdock also lends a very nice vocal duet on the afforementioned "Call" as well as prominent backing on several others. Not a bad song in the collection. Fans may also try to seek out her demo/promo recording which includes 3 songs not on this collection (they're good too) as well as alternate takes on a couple of others. I heartily recommend this not only for the fans, but for all those whose love of the Gospel is as much a commitment as is evidenced by Ms. Moore's beautiful release. BRAVO, MS. MOORE, BRAVO!!" Quiet gospel gem. lionknockout61 | INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA United States | 09/27/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Great mixture of today's gospel music. Worship, testimony, stand up and holla...if you like gospel music this cd has something for everybody...... with that distinctive melba moore voice!!
truly amazed of her remake of 'the other side of the rainbow, she can STILL hold that note!! Her remake, Lift every voice and sing, now has a more spiritual sound. Her version of 'Call me, is worth the price of the cd alone. She also has some Kirk Franklin-choir like-high energy songs on this set also. I recognized background vocals of Shirley Murdock which is a wonderful addition and lastly the title song, I'm still here,... truly a song of testimony, a song that melba pours her heart into. This cd can easily be the gospel find of the year. ...With Melba's past Broadway and R&B accomplishments, it great that she's back!!! With hundreds of gospel artists and their cds to choose from.. go with a proven sure thing... Go out and Find this cd,you won't be disappointed. She STILL got it and ... She's still here." |
