"United Abominations being Megadeath's 2007 release and their 11th studio album and is great mix of heavy metal and thrash metal. Mustaine has written some very political lyrics and usually I have an aversion to political music but Mustaine writes with plenty of wit and intelligence so that the lyrics do not sound basic or like propaganda. The album was met by many positive reviews. Kerrang!, IGN and Blabbermouth all gave it 4/5 which I also give it. All the lyrics are included in the booklet including a list of whom plays what including the brand names of the instruments which is quite rare. The artwork is ok but a little busy. The photograph of the band is very nice. 4/5."

"This record could have been better, compared to the newest record Endgame, which was an overall better record. United Abominations just didn't have the same intensity as other Megadeth records."

"Welcome Back.



This album features a lot of the ideas from classic Megadeth Albums; political ideology backed up with heated vocals, melodic riffs with burning guitar solos on top of them. The album opens up with "Sleepwalker" which is a recollection of Dave Mustaine's nightmares and goes on about that. The next song "Washington is Next!" is one of the numerous politically driven songs, now on this song Dave takes a different stand on this song that he has before on older albums. By speaking of Biblical prophecies pointing to the end of the world and tying that to the current political situations that we're in, and going about the New World Order believed to be on the rise of political power.



Now onto "Never Walk Alone... A Call to Arms". This is by far, the most unique song of the album, seeing as how it doesn't talk about politics, war, or the effects of violence. This song actually is about the love that God has had for Mustaine, and I'm sure it's on the album for us all to get something out of. Now, I am a Christian, and Dave's conversion to Christianity was a big deal to me. This song really speaks out to me, and is a reminder that while we were enemies of God, He still loved us and took us in.



"United Abominations" is the next song featured on the album which starts with some dissonant chords and as the song gets more involved you hear the classic "radio conversations" from the older Megadeth albums. It's a man going on about the issues going on in the world and how the United Nations does nothing about any of it. The rest of the song is about the failings of the U.N. "Gears of War" is another political song speaking about the ethics of war. "Blessed are the Dead" is another song based on Dave's Christian Beliefs, he is talking about the war that will "end all wars" and how terrible it will be, but he is washed in blood and will be safe from all of this.



The song "Play for Blood" is a song that I don't fully understand, other than the fact that it just sounds really good; it's a song that I would probably use as a sports teams promotional video soundtrack.Now, "A Tout Le Monde" is actually a remake from off of an older album, but they sped up the track and added in Cristina Scabbia, lead singer of Laguna Coil, as a background singer and made the song more of a duet. The song itself sounds great. The final political song on the album appears now on the album "Amerikhastan". This song is about the Islamic assimilation that some believe is taking over some European nations and is now working its way into the United States. "You're Dead" is a song about revenge, and the pains from someone who's done wrong. Some may believe that it may be another revenge song about James Hetfield or Lars Ulrich of Metallica, but the second verse seems a little more redemptive than past revenge songs. The album ends with the song "Burnt Ice" which is about a man who loses everything to an addiction to Crystal Meth and his struggle to escape from it.



This album blew me away when I first heard it. I may be only twenty years old, but I have been listening to Megadeth for about 5 or 6 years now. I have gotten almost every album and am still working on getting them all. The first album I had was the Best Hits album Capitol Punishment. I loved that album, obviously, it was the best so far (seeing as it is the greatest hits album). I then got The System has Failed, which was great, but not as great as I thought it would be, I then went back and found the early Megadeth albums and fell in love with them. When I came across this album I was told it was great, but remained skeptical until I listened to it. I'm glad I did, welcome back Dave."
