One of the most interesting things about the Zippers is the coherency of sound: the various offshoot projects - Tom Maxwell (on this album, teamed with fellow former Zipper Ken Mosher), Katherine Whalen's Jazz Squad, Jimbo Mathus' Knockdown Society, Je Widenhouse & Reese Gray's Firecracker Jazz - they all still sound very much like the sort of music we would expect to get from the Squirrel Nut Zippers.
Which is to say, if you miss the Squirrel Nut Zippers, and need a new fix, this album can help you out. It keeps the spirit of the band alive nicely." |
