Piano genius

"These two lps came out in the mid-60s. The one featuring Haasan, the pianist from Philly, is extraordinary. This CD release omits one tune (Hope so, Elmo)dedicated to another piano genius, Elmo Hope. Max's playing is very exciting on both these albums, but the session with Haasan is the standout. I've always wished that he had been recorded again, but this seems to have been it. Supposedly, Haasan recorded another album for Atlantic, with a different rhythm section, but so far it has never been released, or maybe it never happened. The quintet session is good, especially the solo drum tracks."
