"I liked the Staples Singers's albums so much with their upbeat songs and their positive messages that I wanted to listen to Mavis's solo album ONLY FOR THE LONELY, recorded on the Stax label too.

I must say I was quite surprised because it's such a dark album, especially in comparison to the Staples's albums. I should have known cause the cover really shows the mood of the album.

However, after a while, I began to really like it, those sad love songs and the nice production. It's completely different but it's another side of Mavis Staples and of Stax too.

If you like Aretha Franklin's early 70's albums, you should like this one. If you're a Staples Family fan (like me), you should like it too."
