"The second set Pollini set in the Great Pianists of the 20th Century series is dedicated solely to the music of Chopin, a composer with whom Pollini has been associated since the 1960s. This set, which deserves no end of superlatives, jusitifies itself over other competing Chopin recitals purely as a compedium of performance techniques. Purchasers will receive the justifiably famous set of Op. 10 etudes, where Pollini makes a lucid case for each piece both as a cognitive "study" of a particular musical problem (the etudes' original premise) and as stand alone pieces of musical brilliance. Also included in this generous set are Nocturnes of grace and beauty (but not exaggeration) and Second Sonata with a rhythmically daring first movement and a fourth movement with the density and complexity of particle physics and a Piano Concerto that features Pollini at his most Mozartean. It is impossible to imagine becoming bored with any one style, as there are so many from which to choose. All of this music simply sounds right-well considered, researched and performed. I look forward to countless hours of listening to this set."
