"i have always dreamed of music of this magnitude, never got around to actually hearing some. Rustic, and enchanting, it has this wonderful ability of letting you picturize exactly what the music will fit into in terms of nature....Listen to the music and you can picture youself in a dream-airplane, single propeller, flying through the valleys of amazing beauty, beauty, we as men are incapable of - only nature could compare to it.Two thumbs up!"

"The songs by Ayub Ogada and Geoffery Oryema are great! Unfortunately the rest of the soundtrack music doesn't hold up to the African's musical stylings. It was interesting to hear Italian and African themes woven together - although as a whole I found this CD disappointing. I recommend you purchase a CD by Ogada or Oryema instead of this one."

"Varese Sarabande presents legendary composer Maurice Jarre's latest endeavor in film scoring - "I DREAMED OF AFRICA", thematic abounding. Some of the finest orchestration and arrangements this icon has ever composed, much of which, we've come to expect from his past music - "LAWRENCE OF ARABIA" (1962) - "DOCTOR ZHIVAGO" (1965) - "A PASSAGE TO INDIA" (1984) - "GORILLAS IN THE MIST" (1988) - "DEAD POETS SOCIETY" (1989) and "SUNSHINE" (2000).A true musical master, in a career that has spaned half a century, composing some of history's most unforgettable films - over 100 films in all. Despite this wide variance of emotional range, Jarre expertly incorporates his main theme throughout the score, binding it together as a coherent piece.Highly recomend this inspiring masterpiece, an enjoyable listen that should not be missed. As composer John Barry did for "Born Free" and "Out of Africa" - Jarre meets all criteria for - "I DREAMED OF AFRICA" you feel you are there...safari!Total Time: 60:04 on 8 Tracks/ Varese Sarabande - 302 066 143 2 (2000)"
