CD ReviewsWHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Paul M. Mock | Hollywood, CA | 01/25/2010 (1 out of 5 stars) "This guy had so much promise a few years ago...WHAT HAPPENED? This new CD is filled with drivel. The sound is obnoxious and the lyrics are for the "bubble gum" crowd. I mean with a song titled "Don't Hate ON Me" you know the focus group this guy is going after now. He started out strong with his "Two Shots" CD and it has been painfully downhill since then. So sad." What Might Have Been... Billy Clark | Berkeley, CA United States | 04/16/2010 (2 out of 5 stars) "Matt had the potential to be a modern Sinatra. More raw talent then most his career is now in the crash & burn stage, singing primarily in small Canadian and Mid-Western hotels and casinos to audiences filled with blue-haired, polyester-wearing women and their reluctant husbands. Matt's TWO SHOTS album made you say "Buble' Who?", and every cool young guy from New York to Vegas had his music on their daily playlists. And then came album #2...
For some insane reason Dusk chose to move away from the kind of sound that made him a hit and move to (gasp) SHOWTUNES! I mean, picture a guy who has champagne, candelight and a beautiful woman in his arms, and then "Get Me To The Church On Time" comes on the Matt CD? Talk about losing street cred! And even when he tried a Sinatra classic Matt felt he had to re-interpret it in a smarmy, dishonest way -- unlike fellow Canadian Michael Buble', who embraces and believes in both Frank and an honest interpretation of The Great American Songbook... I may be wrong or overly harsh on Matt, but check out the location and size of Dusk's next apearance and then try to even get a ticket to any of Buble's many 15,000 seat concerts. Matt Dusk's TWO SHOTS is one of the coolest, stylized, jazziest and romantic albums ever -- I and many of my friends listen to it constantly. But every album of Matt's since TWO SHOTS are just embarressments. Sorry Matt, I still believe in you but its time to get your act together... " |
