"I first heard of Mat Kearney early in 2005 after I heard "Undeniable" on the radio. At first, the song didn't blow me away, but I liked it and I was interested in checking out this new artist some more. What I found was an outstanding debut album, with a perfect blend of acoustic guitars, driving beats, the occasional piano, tasteful rapping, and thoughtful lyrics. Many of the obvious comparisons can be made about him as well, as sometimes he can remind you of Coldplay, Dave Matthews, Counting Crows, or Paul Wright.
Trainwreck - 9/10 - A hard, driving beat with lyrics that set the tone for the rest of the album, with Kearney confessing that he is a "trainwreck for you."
Undeniable - 9/10 - The first single, took me awhile to appreciate how good it was. It would be standard CCM were it not for the rapping in the verses.
Bullet - 10/10 - My favorite from the album. I love the guitar and drum beat. Great lyrics and a powerful message in the chorus. "I would take a bullet for you...I would lose it all and take my fall to show you it's for real."
Girl America - 7/10 - A good track but it doesn't really stand out among the rest. A song that reminds me of Paul Wright's style.
In The Middle - 9/10 - Some of his vocals here really make him sound like Chris Martin of Coldplay. Just another great track.
Renaissance - 10/10 - Powerful song about losing it all and asking for forgiveness, a second chance, and a way to heal a broken heart. Great, comforting chorus.
Call Me - 9/10 - Comparisons to Coldplay can mount here. A nice, mellow acoustic track.
Poor Boy - 9/10 - Great beat, wish more hip-hop would sound like this.
Walking Away - 9/10 - Once again, Mat shows an ability to craft guitar riffs beautifully to complement his rapping/singing.
Tomorrow - 8/10 - Another great track, piano based beat, very cool sounding.
Won't Back Down - 9/10 - An end album piano ballad. I just love the chorus and the feel of the song about not giving in and backing down no matter all of the chaos in your life.
Some of the best Christian music that has come out recently, it's a shame that he won't get any mainstream recognition, but there really isn't a market for am artist like him anyway. Mat's strongest points are his guitar/piano riffs, vocal/rapping style, and his thoughtful and relatable lyrics. I look forward to more music from him in the future."

"Mat Kearney's "Bullet" exploded on to the scene in a way that no one imagined. Taking a blend of contemporary pop, adult alternative, hip hop, acoustic rock and even some "emo," Kearney's release definately has something for everyone. Not only is that "something" great... it's originality is simply undeniable. There is just nothing like it out there right now.
Musically, Mat Kearney has fused some of the best qualities of the musical scene. His catchy beats, his addictive voice, the melodic ensemble, the poetic lyrics... it all just works; and how. Kearney's original musical blend is sure to have you wrapped up for the entire duration of the album, however many times you listen to it.
His vocals do, at times, resemble that of Coldplay's lead vocalist (ocasionally, the music does too) and, at other times, Everlast's. However, as the music is varied, so his voice morphs with it too. If you're looking for an album with outstanding music and great vocals that can adjust to nearly every taste in music, this is the album you are looking for."
Unlike most Christian mainstream music, this Cd is awesome!

"Well I first purchased this cd back in March because of the song "Undeniable". My 4 year old at the time absolutely would go nuts every time we heard it on Christian radio. We would drive down the street to school with a brush and pen in our hands pretending to sing in a microphone all the while he is singing "your the only one...." on the top of his lungs.
Cd came home at first I really was not feeling the vibe of it since it is no way close to music I would normally listen to, but for my sons sake it was played over and over again for about 2 weeks until I absolutely feel in love with it.
This album has an urban hip hop/acoustic/pop and spoken word type feel to it. Truly an album that sits you in front of Gods thrown in a way that cannot be explained. The lyrics touch the deepest part of the listener. Truth as it unfolds in a story surrounded by all types of sounds and beats that at times makes you want to dance and at others just sit down and let in all sink in.
Favorite Songs:

"Well Mat is in a league that few have dared to enter. He definitely has a uniqueness about him that very few can even claim. There's a hint of a number of bands that his music sounds a little like. Those bands would be the likes of Trick Turner, a hint of Johnny Cash, a hint of Dave Matthew's Band, and even made me think of Everlast with the guitar work and the voice too. I am not disappointed. I even checked the demo out on a whim and was blown away by the artistry. You can't go wrong if you like the sound of acoustic guitar melded with the hip hop beat and feel. But don't think this is all hip hop. Mat takes you down the road with some piano too and some strictly singing songs. So there's a bit for everyone here."
A stunning achievement

"I am not a Christian. I generaly am completely unimpressed by Christian music. I must say that this album is a very rare exception. Mat Kearney has released an absolutely stagging work. If you like Coldplay or Keane - this music is for you. I highly recommend it!"
