Great chance to hear SteelyDan before their fame and fortune

"If you are interested to know how the guys sounded in their very early days, this is a definite must have. I think it's amazing to find out how good and professional they sounded, even without the use of a complete band and a million dollar studio. This album gives you a rare opportunity to listen to Steely Dan in the making; A chance no true fan should ever pass by. I think the somewhat poor sound quality is of litle consequence. I think you can compare buying this cd with buying a book. It's not just a book, it's not even a first print. You're looking at handwritten studies by the authors of a bestseller."
Early work that looks forward to Jay and... on to Can't Buy.

"To even touch this collection, you have to be a serious enthusiast. There have been several "compilations" of various versions of these songs released, beyond the bootlegs. Anyway, a look behind the curtain before Denny, Skunk, Carlton, and probably "The immortal" engineer. Recommended for the serious old or new Dan fan. Good hunting."
A must for any TRUE DanFan

"This CD has several GREAT songs that you can't hear anywhere else. Mock turtle soup, Horse in town, and Brain tap are just a few of the highlights that I cant believe The Dan never reworked and polished. Quality is subpar, but this is a nice piece of Steely history that is a must for any TRUE DanFan."
Just awful! For diehard "true" fans only.

"Okay, Steely Dan are great. I've worn out their vinyl discs because I love their music so much I play it constantly. I've even memorized most of their stuff. But this is something else. Yes, a few songs are well written. But the sound quality goes wayyy below scratchy and poor. It sounds like the original was done on an old dictaphone cassette that got dropped into a storm sewer and swallowed up by an eel, which regurgitated it because even lower forms of life couldn't tolerate the abysmal screechy, squawky, strident din. Sandpaper on the knuckles is more pleasant. If you absolutely MUST have EVERYTHING Becker & Fagen ever did, then get it and put up with it. Otherwise, apply the money to something more mellifluous, eg, Aja, Katy Lied, Pretzel Logic, etc."
