CD ReviewsAn average album from a talented singer songwriter A. Boyd | Boston MA | 10/02/2010 (3 out of 5 stars) "Few artists are blessed with David Gray's distinct voice and songwriting ability. He's certainly gotten popular, perhaps too much so and for the wrong reasons, but he remains a notable artist. Gray's latest release Foundling (includes a bonus CD) offers up a handful of finely written and performed contemporary folk / mellow rock tunes- not mind-bending, but nice. Another handful of tunes fall into what I call his "Nod Off Series," as in, try not to nod off while listening to them (someone, please hide Gray's piano.) My love/hate thing with David Gray aside, there are some nice tunes worth owning here. To sample Gray in his prime, sample songs from A Century Ends, which is also reviewed here. Gray's album Flesh is also among his best and is a Must Hear!
GENRES: Contemporary Folk, Mellow Rock. BUY IF YOU LIKE: Ray LaMontagne, Martin Sexton. MUST HEAR TRACKS: "Only the Wine," "Foundling," "Gossamer Thread," "The Dotted Line," "A Million Years," "Old Father Time."" |
