This collection of rare and previously unreleased Gaye performances originally appeared in 1994; augmented by several bonus tracks, it's now part of Motown's Lost and Found series. While the selection of album cuts and B-sides on the earlier Seek and You Shall Find is touched with genius, Love Starved Heart's effectiveness is frequently hampered by lackluster material. This isn't a bad disc; the star does his best with the likes of "You're a Son of a Gun." Gaye aficionados who don't already own the disc will appreciate having it back in print, and even casual fans should hear "Dark Side of the World," a neglected gem from the "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" era. But for the most part, this isn't essential Marvin. --Rickey Wright
