"What a wonderfully refreshing banjo CD. Marvin has a solid two finger picking style and a stack of unusual, but toe tapping tunes. I grabbed up my mountain dulcimer and just had to play along with "Chickens Crowin' at Midnight." My husband
(who never plays along with CD's) went and got his old Martin(yes, the one that caught on fire) and said, "Hey--put that
chicken tune on again." Last night, we played it for my buddy, Ellen, and she picked up the banjolin and played along and all we could do was grin as we played. There are lots of make you feel good tunes here.
The tunes are cut clear and clean with fiddle and guitar. It is listenable and playalongable. Nothing contrived here--it's honest string band music with solid two finger pickin'.

"I've a soft spot for banjo pickers, and Marvin Gaster is certainly one of the best I've heard.



The CD brochure explains, he's the last in a long line of Lee County, North Carolina "two-finger banjo pickers." The great grandson of a famous fiddler, Gaster was raised by his great aunt and uncle in a tobacco farmer's house.



I haven't any use for tobacco, except that the heritage and house gave us this great musician.



With 24 fantastic cuts, this CD has given me hours of listening pleasure, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's good old fashioned bluegrass fun."
