CD Reviews

Great Alternate Takes From Shangri-La!
Robert I. Hedges | 07/02/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a great EP for Knopfler fans. It contains alternate takes from "Shangri-La" (plus "Rudiger" from "Golden Heart"). This is a more relaxed Knopfler than you may be used to. It isn't that he isn't polished (he can't help himself but be incredible); it's just a very laid back recording. I am especially fond of Chad Cromwell's drumming here, especially on "Song For Sonny Liston."

The standouts here are "Song For Sonny Liston," "Boom, Like That," "Everybody Pays," and "Stand Up Guy." I think I actually prefer these versions of "Song For Sonny Liston" and "Boom, Like That" to the ones from "Shangri-La," and that is truly saying something.

If you like the Music of Mark Knopfler, this will be a welcome, unique, and wonderful addition to your collection.

Buy One Take Radio Sessions instead

"The previous reviewer appears to actually be reviewing a disc titled

"One Take Radio Sessions" which has all of the songs here plus Rudiger and

Everybody Pays. Those two songs are not included on this disc. Buy One Take Radio Sessions and get more songs for less money. This one appears to be an EU release that shorted the European fans compared to what the US got."
