CD Reviews

A true soundtrack to a lost Martian civilization
Michael Paulsen | Rancho Santa Margarita, CA USA | 07/27/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This release from 1988 still remains a powerful and mysterious soundtrack to an ancient Martian civilization, and -- loosely -- the companion piece to Richard Hoagland's book of the same name. These songs accurately portray the desolation and solitude of the Cydonian region of Mars and the echoes of its civilization (if ever there was one). All of the music on this electronic album is amazingly played on MIDI guitar (with the exception of percussion)! Mark Dwane's subsequent concept albums continue to ponder lost civilizations (Atlantis, Erich Von Daniken's theories, etc.) and new age concepts, but this one still remains the most vivid and haunting of them all."
Great, Spacey New Age from an undiscovered New Age master
RickH | NC | 04/03/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I own all three of Mr. Dwane's CD's that are available here on Amazon and I like them all, but this one is my personal favorite. This is space music that mentally takes you away from this world and has you hovering above the Martian landscape, coming in for a soft touchdown. The best track here, "Cydonia" sounds better than most other New Age music I've heard by anyone- it would make an excellent, atmospheric theme song for a sci-fi movie or TV show. In summary, if you haven't heard "Monuments of Mars", you haven't heard one of the finest New Age titles out there."
Dwane's first CD. A nice new age based work.

"This is Dwane's first CD (not including the cassette only The Myth, sadly still un-released) and includes some quiet, but very digital and full sounding pieces. A good "first" effort."
