"Although this is an early Marianne Faithfull album, it truly shows an honest and ethereal quality - sung from the heart. Her gutsy rendition of The House of the Rising Sun is very real - Scarborough Fair enlightening and sweet. But by and far, Morning Sun, is one of the most outstanding pieces I've ever had the pleasure of hearing and she has certainly made it her own. The light, airy quality and tone of her voice lets me know that she was and always will be "This Little Bird""

Folk and pop treasures

"This collection of Marianne Faithfull in the early days contains some real treasures. The music is a mix of folk and pop, including 60s standards like her covers of Yesterday, House Of The Rising Sun, First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Sunny Goodge Street and Monday Monday. Her voice is still sweet and vulnerable but able to convey a wide range of emotion, whilst the arrangements are beautiful. The overall sound is quite reminiscent of her late 1960s/early 1970s contemporaries like Mary Hopkin. The material is of the highest quality, with lovely tunes, memorable hooks and often poetic lyrics. My favourites here include the sorrowful Go Away From My World, the rousing Is This What I Get For Loving You Baby and the poignant Come And Stay With Me. Other great collections of Faithfull's early work are The Very Best Of Marianne Faithfull and Marianne Faithfull's Greatest Hits. As regards her later work, the CD to get is Perfect Stranger: The Island Anthology."
