Passion and poetry

"A solid concert album from 1997 where Bethânia combines skilfully her songs with poetry readings demonstrating that, besides a genius singer, she is a talented actress (although her dramatic strengths have always been present in her expressive vocals). The musical repertoire includes several tracks from her album "Âmbar" (released the year before) with old Bethânia classics as "Grito de alerta", "Sonho impossível" and "Negue", as well as a few new tracks as "Segue o teu destino" or "Quixabeira". The poetry readings concentrate on Fernando Pessoa, the best portuguese poet ever. One of the best cuts of this album is the combination of the poem "Todas as cartas de amor são" with the stunning song "Mensagem": pure passion. In summary, a very nice journey along Brazilian Popular Music and an essential document for people (like me) who unfortunately live in countries where Maria Bethânia never goes touring. But when, when are you coming, Bethânia?"

"Even if you don't understand a word of Portughese, you'll be thouched by the astonishing voice of Bethânia. And even if you don't understand a word of Portuguese, you'll be touched by the way she "plays" Pessoas' poems. She's certainly the best Brazilian singer ever. And this is the best CD recorded in world's history. You'll be astonished, touched, loved by her. Loved by her voice."
