CD ReviewsCool Jam Black Earth by Marc Jordan 06/12/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you are a Marc Cohn fan, then I strongly recommend another "Marc", Marc Jordan. Their styles are similar in that they both have rich, expressive voices. Marc Jordan's album, Cool Jam Black Earth is an infusion of pop, ballads and jazz. The title song sounds like poetry read in a coffee shop, very deliberately expressed. My favorite, Spain, is a wistful ballad of lost love: Lonely lonely- Lucky penny at my feet- Think I'll toss it down the street. Most of the tracks deal with some aspect of love and the degrees to which we need it, regret it, or share it. Most of the lyrics were written by Jordan and are quite poetic. An example from Catch the Moon: Time goes by on the parallel-On the streets of fire oh- Burning songs from a dark hallway-Echo now through the never never never- And your life becomes just a ritual- When you ice the vein that leads to your heart. Marc Jordan breathes life into these words. Like an "old soul" who has lived through it all, his expressive singing makes you feel his music, at times intense, personal, and powerful."
