Album Description"Magnificent performances by the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, whose players appear to have a deep emotional and spiritual connection with the music they're playing." -- ClassicsToday An album of string music by one of Mexico's most famous composers, performed by the acclaimed Cuarteto Latinoamericano in celebration of their twenty-fifth anniversary. Nominated for two Grammys, this ensemble is an authoritative voice in Latin American classical music. The group has also received three CMA/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming. The three Bitran brothers (Saul and Aron, violinists, and Alvaro, cellist) together with violist Javier Montiel, have become international ambassadors of their repertoire, touring extensively in Europe, North, Central and South America, New Zealand, and Israel. The quartet has been in residence at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh since 1987. In Mexico, they are credited with the emergence of a new generation of string players. More than fifty works have been written for them, and they have given over one hundred world premieres. Manuel Maria Ponce (1992-1948) is universally famous for his popular song "Estrellita," but he also wrote a significant body of orchestral and chamber music.
