CD Reviews

Front-To-Back Thumping Fun
J | Washington, DC United States | 07/08/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a good, consistent mix of hard house circuit sounds. The only exception is CeCe Peniston's "Lifetime To Love" which is similar to so many other R&B dance songs she's done before -- not that there's anything wrong with that. "Drama on the Dancefloor" will give any voguing queen plenty of shady showcase material. "If It Don't Fit" is a special FX tribal dub of Abigail's song that proves that some tunes are better without words. Three dedications to the glory of Him start to weigh this collection down, but GTS & Loleatta Holloway's "Share My Joy", Michelle Weeks' "Rejoice" and Dawn Tallman's "Be Encouraged" are saved by musical productions that are full of power and energy. Shauna Solomon's "Wathcha Gonna Do" and especially Pat Hodges "Rushing To Meet You" combine divas and drum machines well. A fun and slimy mix of "Roaches" by Trancesetters sounds like the remix was created underwater, but Sandstorm's "Return of Nothing" and "Pulsing" by Everlasting Throbbing Poppers are repetitive and pointless fillers that could have easily been left out. Biggest surprise: Junior Vasquez's "Be Quiet" -- who knew that girl could still to turn out something this fun? It sounds like the marching anthem for some toy army robots. The CD ends with a sweet little mix of a song called "I Don't Want (Nobody Tellin Me What To Do)" by Cherie Amore. You can tell that these producers really had a good time mixing this stuff, so this CD ends up being a good buy for warehouse lovers."
The best of the 'Circuit Sessions' series to date

"With 3 C.S. releases as of the date of this review, this remains the best--not by just a little bit either."
Expected Better, but it's pretty good...

"Being a big fan of Manny in the clubs, I was looking forward to this CD. It's good, but it kind of focuses too much on Black Diva Vocal songs, and isn't quite as varied as a night at the Factory with Manny. I guess part of the problem is that the compilations are limited in the music they can license, so you can't get a CD with as many of the songs you hear out in the clubs. I really miss the days of bootleg CD's! Still, this one definitely has a few songs worth listening to."
