CD Reviews

Man - 'Slow Motion' (Esoteric)
Mike Reed | USA | 10/11/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Another classic Man lp on CD reissue, faithfully remastered with six added bonus tracks. Originally released in early 1975, belongs right along side of your other Man CD's, like 'Do You Like It Here Now, Are You Settled In?', 'Live At The Padget Rooms, Penarth', etc. Might sound a bit different than earlier Man records, but that's because keyboardist Malcolm Morley had now left the band and Man was now down to a four piece instead of a five piece. Liked the opener "Hard Way To Die" for it has a nicely played instrumental segment late in the song, "Grasshopper" has a smooth flow to it, "Rock And Roll You Out" is a great upbeat blues rocker as only this Welsh band can pull it off and "You Don't Like Us" features some catchy riffs. As for the extra cuts, there are four live songs taken from a 1975 gig in Berkley, California - a few of them are tunes from earlier Man albums - the rocking "Somebody's Calling" and "Many Are Called, But Few Get Up". I found myself a few times playing these bonus tracks without playing the entire disc. This particular Man title reminds me of Allman Brothers Band (at times), Savoy Brown and Wishbone Ash. Definitely, a should-have."
