Opera AND Pop!

"Normally I like these two genres to be in separate areas of my iPod, never to mix or mingle in my playlists. Malena Ernman's album is a wonderful exception to this rule.



Having seen this particular singer during this year's Eurovision contest (my very first exposure to this bizarre exercise in European pop politics), I recognized her, but couldn't place the voice. Turns out she's been in several of my favorite operas! It took me a few months to figure out, and by that time this particular gem had been released.



Its a weird mixture of opera classics and new pop music. Both are wonderful to listen to as the woman has an insane vocal range. The pop songs are wonderfully camp, but show off her vocal talents rather well. The opera pieces are by far the better parts of the album, but complement the contemporary songs rather well.
