Rediscovery of Makoto Ozone

"Recently my family and I were travelling in Japan. Happened upon a music store and recalled how I used to listen to Makoto Ozone in the past. Being in Japan I looked him up and found this CD. It is, in a word, great! His fellow band members are both excellent, but this album really shows what a great talent Makoto is. Beautiful lyric improvisations - clean and masterful, fluid jazz piano. On one song he leans into this blues improv that made me almost fall over. No gimics - just plain excellence in musicianship. Nice choice of songs covering a range of material. For me this is a rediscovery - Makoto once again winds up on my currently playing list."
