CD ReviewsThe future of the past. SuneBoy | Denmark | 11/03/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "If you are in anyway into country/delta-blues with a small touch of traditionals 'n blue(s)grass, you need to get this album.
If you are curious and want to get more into this kind og music and perhaps have trouble adapting to the very old classic recordings from the masters, buy this album and move backwards. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL! Nathan James is in his twenties, but plays that rural blues guitar the way its meant to be. He's got a wonderful soulful blues-voice and goes high and low as the blues is all about. This guy will carry on the delta-torch, and in safe hands too. I've never heard Ben Hernandez live, but he sure can handle that washtub-bass, harmonica and even ye good ol' jug. And its all in that sloppy laidback style I find so important in this kind of music. His vocals are wonderfully bluesy too, so these guys compliments each other like some old Mcghee/Terry nittygritty stuff The production of the CD (which i believe is done by great blues old-timer James Harman) is fabulous compared to other new delta-recordings. Its 2 guys sitting in a small room, playing the blues...none of that fancy effects that has ruined more than one recent delta-recording. Close your eyes and they are right beside you. Now i just need to experience these two guys live, together, and ill be one happy camper. Altho I live in scandinavia im confident that i will catch these 2 at a bluesvenue sometime..because they are gonna be around for years! Wohoo :)" |
