Magnificent performance

"Most people prefer CSO with Solti for this symphony, but this performance is the greatest: there is: heartfelt singing in Prey's 'Ewiger Wonnebrand' and Riegel's 'Jungfrau, rein im schonsten Sinne' and especially in 'Blicket auf' its last phrase of 'Gottin, bleibe gnadig!' really breaks my heart. The final is perfect, starting with 'Komm!' and later on the women perfectly mingling with each other in 'Alles vergangliche', I get bored listening to Solti, Abbado, Kubelik, Bernstein, Haitink and Tennstedt. This is what Mahler must have got in mind and besides the great singing of those choirs, the orchestra is top in it, too. I can't hear mistakes and the sound is wonderful with great brass and sensitive strings. The final is much slower than most people are used to, being used to Solti, but this one works. This recording makes me religious for the time being. No discussions with me, this is it."
