"Last summer I had the opportunity to assist, within the shows of the festival "Taormina Arte", to a concert of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta. The good impression received by the listening of that concert has induced me to the acquisition, from amazon, of the CD object of this review. I must say that the impression received has been rather different: surely the atmosphere of the live performance has influenced my personal judgment, since the listening of the CD has, seeming to mine, underlined a reading of high "routine", without an enough careful investigation of Mahler's sixth symphony, a complex symphonic text with numerous implications of dramatic, emotional and of counterpoint character, that offers ample possibilities of interpretative choice to the performers. Yet, the present recording well puts in evidence the great value of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and as unexceptionable and absolutely pleasant the reading of Zubin Mehta appears. This recording, for the clarity of interpretation, is surely advisable to whom wants to make their first acquaintance with this composition; to the conosseurs and experts of Mahler I recommend more stimulating and exciting versions (Barbirolli, Bernstein, Boulez, Horenstein, Inbal, Solti, Tennstedt, Zander). The technical quality of the recording is excellent."
