Another excellent Ninth!

"I've had this recording in my collection for quite some time before sitting down to give it a careful listening. My first reaction is very positive. Pinpoint engineering with a crystal clear and wide sound stage makes this cd a 'you are there' experience. Inbal does not bring the emotionalism to his conducting style like Bernstein, but this is no cold rendition like many of Gergiev's recent releases. Mahler never seemed more fresh than in Inbals hands. I enjoyed this Ninth very much. Very recommended. I also like Karajan's second recording on DG. Any of Bernsteins live releases are excellent, particularly his Vienna DVD.
Historically speaking, Walter's 1938 recording rereleased on Dutton is top notch."
