""My soul glorifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour" are the first lines of the text to the "Magnificat"...music that even in the darkest of times will lift your spirit.
This is a strong, profound piece, full of beauty...it's coupled here with the wonderful "Cantata BWV 10", one of Bach's 7 known Marian cantatas, composed in 1724 for the feast of Visitation of Mary.
Helmuth Rilling gives a robust, superb perfomance, with an excellent cast in both compositions. I especially like Soprano Christine Schafer and Alto Ingeborg Danz in the Magnificat...the trio (track # 10 :"He protects Israel, his servant, remembering his mercy") which they sing with Soprano Ibolya Verebics is outstanding. Another favorite is Tenor Aldo Baldin in the two recitativos of the Cantata.
The insert booklet is very complete, with text in three languages and bios of the cast. Total time is 49:47, and every minute a delight."
