"I've recently begun dabbling in music of the Andes and have found that few discs offer the right (for me) balance between authenticity and polish. I don't want it to sound too slick, but I don't want a bunch of out-of-tune playing, either. This collection is ideal and an incredible bargain, with two discs for the price of one and selections by three different ensembles. The variety in sound is nice but not so different as to be jarring--not surprising considering that the list of performers in the booklet shows more than a 50% overlap between the groups. Lots of the deep breathy flutes, but also with a good balance of recorders, guitars, drums, and vocals. If you're looking for a good, long-playing collection to evoke images of condors soaring over jagged peaks and Inca descendants with their llamas (alpacas?), "Magic Flutes and Music from the Andes" would be hard to beat."
