Synopsis

Album Description
From Detroit, USA came Madam X and their self-titled, one and only album, 'We Reserve The Right' and for many things were never quite the same again. Produced by American rock legend Rick Derringer and featuring soon-to-be Vixen drummer Roxy Petrucci and her guitar playing sister Maxine, Madam X were loud visually and musically and turned heads in major fashion. Available here for the first time on CD, 'We Reserve The Right' is a timeless rock record crammed with anthemic, air punchin' tracks like the single 'High In High School' and ' Come One, Come All'. Essential!. Global.2006

CD Reviews

A Masterpiece Of True 80's Metal....
Delerious NomaD | IL | 07/05/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I remember back in 1984 when I was 14 yrs old and saw this video for High In High School and I was blown away by their style and true metal sound. Went out and bought the cassette the next day and fell in love with their unique style of metal. To know this classic masterpiece is available on cd only tells me that it is now your time to experience this metal flashback for yourself. Rock on........"
Madam X-- Sebastion at his most girly

"Wow, finally found this on CD.. had on cassette for years, for any fan of Sebastion Bach this is a must have if for nothing but a novelty.

Sebastion didn't do all the singing, but for a 15 yr old kid you could see he was headed for greatness.

This album rocks in its own way, not typical 80's sounding, but definitely an 80's album.

Grab this if for nothing but a novelty, will be worth something in the future...and glad Bach finally ditched all the make up and hairspray..

Want to have fun-- check out the one video they did, can't tell the guys from the girls.."
Lyrically cliched, but otherwise ROCKS!

"Not to be confused with the R&B band "Madame X," the OK song lyrics touch on most of the things any hair metal fan might enjoy (except for fast cars, but this is not "The Beach Boys," so...), but this album does not otherwise disappoint. It is sad that so many have yet to hear this album: the Petrucci sisters rock harder than many men of the time; the bassist's name was "Godzilla;" Sebastian Bach (later to be in some tiny band called "Skid Row") eventually sang with them; Rick Derringer (yes, "that" Rick Derringer) produced it; their drummer eventually played with all-female rockers Vixen; other than the lyrical cliches, this album really ROCKS!!!!

You want to know what 1980's-era hair metal was about? This album is IT in a nutshell. Looking at the song titles and album cover gives you the gist of the album's feel and subject matter: sex, double meanings, more sex, drugs, sleeze, still more sex, and rock 'n' roll; all of the songs have a great crunchy, driving guitar sound that should allow you to bang your head and pump your fists (except for one, "Max Volume," which is a crunchy, driving guitar solo ala Eddie Van Halen's "Eruption" so you can hold your Bic lighter above your head instead of your fists). The cover of this "book" does not lie-Tipper Gore and the rest of the PMRC would likely have had heart attacks if ever exposed to this album. Like other reviewers, I found this release originally on cassette as a teenager and am happy to see it FINALLY on CD! "High in High School" was a single (and I had heard that there was a video for this song, but I have yet to see it as of early 2008). I hope that this CD-version has the vinyl album's extra band photos (the US cassette only had the imagery from the front album cover).

This is the only album of which I am aware by this group, although I had read online interviews with the band members that lead me to believe there were other recorded tracks floating around. I even remember reading a great mini-interview/article about the band (in the 1980's) trying to get to a flight on time--in their stage outfits (studded thongs and all)--makes me think of the scene in "Spinal Tap" with the foil-covered cucumber. The Petrucci sisters still rock and record today (and also look GREAT, by the way)-look for their MySpace pages for proof. 4 and three-quarter stars _only_ because of the cliched song lyrics, otherwise 5 stars of rocking 80's pre-thrash'era metal! Rock on!"
