"Being a latin rock aficionado, I am always searching for music from this genre, especially from the early 70's when it was at it's peak.I had only recently heard of Macondo, and was eager to hear their music, so I ordered the cd.Well let me tell you,it's a little of everything that was happening around the early 70's.The songs range from latin rock to funk and a little Crosby, Stills, and Nash thrown in.On some songs they sound like a latin funkadelic with heavy guitar and funk base, and it works for the most part. The main setback was the lyrics, some which gave me a chuckle, and the singing was not very polished, but again the musicanship of the group pulls through. The highlights of the cd are the to latin jazz numbers Cayuco and Almendra. On Cayuco, the band displays great creativity taking the song in a rock direction with beautiful guitar leads, driving bass and smoking organ, worth the price of the cd alone.Alemendra also smokes with a rock funk feel. What the band really needed was better direction and focus and this would have been a great record. If you interested in this type of music, you should also check out a group called Bwana. They are a bit closer to Santana in their sound and even heavier on the percussion."
