CD ReviewsCutting Edge The Mad Reviewer | Indianapolis, IN USA | 12/03/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "I have been a hip hop enthusiast since I first heard the Sugar Hill Gang, and in that time, I've only heard three other albums that were as chocked (no pun intended) full of creativity. The Mudkids' voice, Choc, flows fluently, intelligently, and positively through every track, and no two sound even remotely the same. Give credit to Elp-Mass, the DJ and producer. When he goes digging for new samples, he's like the Mudkids' namesake promoter, Indiana Jones - he discovers hip hop's ark of the covenant. The beats, melodies, and rhymes on this album are so original and slamming, it will inspire those who have dismissed the genre as overly violent, drug-induced, materialistic, or ignorant (i.e., Spike Lee's comment that Rapcity is a "minstrel show") to give it a second look. It's that powerful." Amazing The Mad Reviewer | 07/26/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "this album blew me away. the beats are, to quote my friend, so underground they're subterranean. And the rhymes are ill. Just get this album as soon as possible, please, it is well worth it." Keep it!! Ethan Mcwhirter | calif-orn-I-A | 01/18/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "I have been a head for a long time but, for some reason, I have only just heard of the Mudkids. After feeling Higher I decided that i had to get a hold of Upward so I could check more of their material. So now Ive given Upward a listen and Ive come to the conclusion that DAMN!! these cats are hot! Upward combines the feel of a Quannum project with stylish, sample heavy beats to produce an unbelievably head bobbin, lyrically conscious album. If you dig Latyrx, Blackalicious, Ugly Duckling, or J5 then pick this album up quick like. The Mudkids jam. That's my take. Peace all!"
