CD Reviews

Everything they do is good :)

"First of all, if you're going for quantity, you sure can't miss with this CD. There are twelve (count `em, twelve! ;) remixes on this CD, and not just of Everything You Do, but also of M2M's other hits, Don't Say You Love Me and Mirror, Mirror. The total track time for the album is more than an hour--76 minutes and 20 seconds, if you want to get technical. For the quality though; most of the remixes aren't that spectacular, though they are by no means bad. They don't have the album version of Everything You Do on it, either. But if you like dancing, you'll like this single. Now for the track listing (and approximate length of song):1. Everything You Do (Groove Brothers Extended Mix). A good lead-off; It's got a dance beat but has a hint of a dreamy quality in the background, still capturing the essence of the song. Oh, and the girls really sing out more in this remix instead of staying soft and light like on most of their album. I love that. (5 min)2. Everything You Do (Groove Brothers Radio Mix.) Basically the same thing as above, but shorter. (4 min)3. Everything You Do (Jonathan Peters' Radio Mix.) It's okay, but I really don't see that much of a difference between it and the first two. (4 min)4. Everything You Do (Jonathan Peters' Club Mix.) This one is different, with an urgency to the beat, and then when you finally get to the verses (after four minutes) it's almost victorious. (9 min)5. Everything You Do (Jonathan Peters' Sound Factory Mix.) Starts out with a hard edge to it. Their voices are real pure on this remix, and the background beat doesn't really match the way they sing it to me. There's a neat techno feel to it, but the clanging sound about seven minutes into can really get annoying! (10 min)6. Don't Say You Love Me (Johnny Vicious Club Mix.) The piano in it is pretty neat, but the words don't seem to match the beat. The song just seems too innocent for such a heavy beat. But they do sing it with more maturity. The end, where they repeat "baby" for a full thirty seconds in the exact same way, is slightly annoying, though. (7 min)7. Don't Say You Love Me (Lenny Bertoldo Club Mix.) A lot of synthesizer on this one. It's alright; the words and singing style of the verses still don't seem to match, though the chorus isn't bad...mainly because it doesn't veer much from the original. (6 min)8.Don't Say You Love Me (Matt & Vito Mix.) My least fave mix. It's not that original a remix, you don't even hear their voices for almost four minutes, the verses are never sung--they just repeat key phrases instead, and around the seven and a half minute mark there's a really annoying part where it sounds like the album is skipping--for 45 full seconds! The only good thing is the girl's delivery of the phrases, as I like the emotion in them. (10 min) 9. Don't Say You Love Me (Tin Tin Out Mix.) The hidden jewel of the CD! An awesome remix. It has almost the same sound but I love what they've done with the guitar and offbeat. M2M still sounds just as pure but the accompaniment is simpler, which I like. And not that I don't like the original, because I do, but it's not as sugary as the album version, either. I can honestly say I like both equally. (3 1/2 min)10. Mirror, Mirror (Eddie's Power Dance Mix.) The beat's pretty good--really good, actually--but I just don't think this is a song that should have been made into a dance mix. The beat is way too peppy for the words. I could be biased by the fact that this is my favorite song on the album though, so I hold it up to a higher standard. ;) (6 min)11. Mirror, Mirror (Eddie's Crossover Mix.) Not bad, actually. It stays close to the original but adds more drum. It sounds more optimistic than the album version but keeps the nostalgia and regret in their voices. Each time I listen to it I like it more and more. (4 min)12. Don't Say You Love Me (Johnny Vicious Dub Mix.) An average remix, and another one that leaves out the verses, and there's nothing really original in the way the mixing was done, either. If I were in a club, I might like dancing to it, but it wouldn't stick around in my mind. They should have ended on the previous song. (7 min)To sum: you definitely get your money's worth. Keep in mind M2M's sound is still pretty innocent, so if you go for a more sultry style, it's probably not for you. Also of course it's different from "Shades of Purple" because it's a dance album, so don't be expecting exactly the same sound. But there's some nice radio and dance mixes on it, too, so if that's your thing, then go for it! :o)"
