"I've purchased other CD's by Lynne Arriale, and I recently purchased "Come Together." I've found all of her CD's to be entertaining, but this one really touched me. I normally am circumspect when a performer writes their own stuff. (I realize that they can't keep playing the standards, but still . . . ) But when I heard "Home" I think I melted on the spot. I literally became entranced by it. The emotion that Lynne and Jay and Steve put into this song. Breathtaking. The song really captures for me what the word "home" means. Then, compare this song with "Braziliana." The calm and serenity of "Home" is replaced by some truly gifted, and frenetic, piano work in "Braziliana." This song is hot.
But the reason I purchased this CD in the first place was because of "Red is The Rose." I love this song, and I've heard thousands of versions of it. I think Lynne nailed the real feeling of this song. Simply beautiful.
I think the trio format is intersting. So much music today is overproduced, and the emotion gets left behind in all the hub-bub. With just a trio the music comes to the forefront, where it belongs."
