Great collection of Anderson's early years

"In 1966, a teenaged Anderson signed with the small Chart label and immediately hit with her mother Liz's up-tempo composition "Ride, Ride, Ride." For the next two years, mom kept daughter charting with top-notch songs that played off her youthful exuberance like "If I Kiss You (Will You Go Away)" and "Promises, Promises." Outside writers entered the fray in 1969 and continued the success, with the equally playful "That's A No No" as well as the Wynette-like tearjerker "Our House Is Not A Home." Anderson would leave Chart in 1970 for the big time (Columbia Records) but the move didn't mean she was now Chartless. Chart mined Anderson's old albums for new singles to compete with her new Columbia recordings. They astutely selected remakes of hits like Hank Snow's "I've Been Everywhere" and the Osborne Brothers' "Rocky Top" which displayed Anderson at her most irresistibly chipper. Consequently, Chart got a handful of top 20 hits for about two years after she left the label. The Chart Years contains every single Chart released on Anderson (including all of the aforementioned), along with a few well-chosen album tracks like "Auctioneer" and "Sing Me A Sad Song." As her entire Chart catalog had been out of print for years, most people have forgotten or never heard these great early Anderson recordings. This reissue should help rectify that."

This Great Collection Of Music, Represents Security!

"I recently received my copy of Lynn Anderson "Anthology - The Chart Years" CD. My Grandma raised me on her singing. Grandma has "The Best Of Lynn Anderson" on an 8 track tape (and many of her albums, as I do) that we'd always listen to when she drove me around in her 1966 Chevy II Nova, which by the way is the year I was born, in fact my birthday is coming up this week. This collection of music, is the greatest birthday present, since I received my copy of my absolute favorite singer Sylvia "Anthology", around this time in 1997. I was very insecure, when I was a little boy and when my Grandma would drive over 200 miles, one way, to pick me up and take me home with her, is when I'd feel the most secure. This music from Lynn Anderson takes me back to that time, like it was yesterday. Songs like..."Too Much Of You", "Sing Me A Sad Song", "Big Girls Don't Cry" and my all-time absolute favorite Lynn Anderson song ever..."I Live To Love You". As well as some of the more up-beat songs..."Promises, Promises", "No Another Time", "That's A No No" and "If I Kiss You"...Are so great to hear in crystal clear CD quality for the first time in my life, her voice on these songs, is so sweet and beautiful and it makes me proud to have been raised on her music. I can't wait to play this CD for my Grandma and see if it brings back nice memories for her too. I finally got the chance to meet Lynn Anderson for the first time last year in Reno after her performance, she treated me like a long lost relative and was gracious enough to pose for a few pictures with me, I cherish those photos! In my opinion, Renaissance Records is the best record company for bringing back so very many classic country artists and their music. "The marketing "geniuses" at Renaissance should be ashamed of themselves. The cover of this anthology covering Lynn Anderson's 1960s Chart Records tenure plastered on a picture of Lynn circa 1983 from the cover of her big Permian Records comeback album BACK. This very strange graphic faux pas does nothing to take away from the sheer brilliance of Lynn's first successful recordings. The sampling here is truly top-notch from her pre-"Rose Garden" period. Lynn was singing about heartbreak and infidelity at tender age with the conviction of someone far more advanced for their years. That was Lynn Anderson's singing gift. Guided by her talented singer/songwriter mother Liz Anderson, young Lynn learned a great deal about lyric interpretation in a widely ignored genre of music. This is indeed a treasure chest of great middle to late century country."
