"It has been a year since the R&B world lost the soulful, sensual voice of Luther Vandross. Although his death was a devistating blow, his songs will always withstand the test of time. He was someone who just made some of the most beautiful pop songs for all kinds of lovers. Nevertheless, they are still in memory. A few years ago, Luther's music was re-released from the Essential Luther Vandrosss double album package. The collection of his songs were defined well, and still are great to listen to. Shortly after his passing, the collection was extended to the best ability possible. Can it be showcased like the collection before?
Luther Vandross: The Essential Plus is the same double album of his era with Sony from the 80's and 90's. The collection delivers quite nicely with his best tracks like Don't Want To Be A Fool, Stop To Love, Power Of Love (Love Power), as well as his collaborations with Mariah Carey on a remake of Lionel Richie & Diana Ross's Endless Love, and How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye with Dionne Warwick. The collection add on a DVD collection of his favorite videos including tracks that arguably should've been released in the original compilation like Always & Forever, and Going In Circles. Yet, with all the fixings, the collection still overshadows a few good tracks like his somber Dance With My Father, which was released before his coma, and Can I Take You Out Tonight.
Despite a couple of flaws, Luther Vandross: The Essential Plus handles quite well, as its earlier edition did. This is a great buy for die hard Luther fans, or for those who haven't heard his beautiful voice yet. I absolutely still enjoy his music, and this is a great buy for all who still believe in that power of love.
