Hip Hop Comeback
Nathan Scott | Clinton, UT | 09/20/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Lupe is on point with this highly anticipated album. easily the best hip hop cd of the year and the best in recent history. What is special about him is that he is a mixture of many many artists wrapped into one. You can hear some of Black Thought from The Roots in there, with young Jay wordplay, even on "Pressure" you can tell why Jay chose to do the song with him. He has the art of story telling like Slick Rick and is able to make simple flow sound incredible like Kanye. The ability to spit a story backwards on "Cool" like Nas did on "Rewind" on adds to his hotness. "Hurt Me Soul" breaks down why hip hop is in such a pit stop and the last verse on the song is the wildest on the album. "I Gotcha" talks about how he won't be like everyone else to sell records. "Kick Push I and II" are super stories about where he comes from, and straight up about skateboarding. Lupe proves here that hip hop does not just live in one culture and it can relate to many people that don't really have experience within the "street life" that most of these artist put such an emphasis on when it comes to their rap, in which most cannot relate to..."Daydreaming" is a monster of a song and so is pretty much every song on the album. "He Say, She Say" is powerful enough play on repeat for days. And the list goes on so if you like real hip hop, then pick this up. And if you aren't feelin this album, then you must not love real hip hop that much. Instant classic and looking forward to years of realism coming from this dude *****"
