CD ReviewsLunatica Returns With Second Masterpiece! Jack | Troy, OH USA | 03/09/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "This Swiss female fronted symphonic metal band first won me over with their previous melodic metal masterpiece Edge of Infinity and now they have returned with their fourth album (and second masterpiece) NEW SHORES, which is equally as impressive as their last. This time around however the guitars and drums play a more dominant role. The symphonic elements are still there, but the guitar solos are where this album improves over their previous release. Andrea sounds as good as ever (although a bit more raw, particularly in "Winds Of Heaven" where she does admittedly hit a few sour sounding notes). This is a band who makes symphonic metal accessible for those of us (such as me) who are not typically fond of the genre. Lunatica is a rare exception. The entire album from start to finish is great, but for me the stand out tracks are the infectious/catchy songs like "The Incredibles", "Two Dreamers", "New Shores", "Heart Of A Lion", "The Day The Falcon Dies", "The Chosen Ones" and the ballad "How Did It Come To This?". They seem to get better with each album (even though most fans seem to favor Fables & Dreams even though that album bored me to tears). If you enjoyed their previous album or are looking for accessible, memorable, catchy, epic symphonic, femme fronted rock music, I very strongly recommend this masterpiece (or their previously mentioned masterpiece). Lunatica once again delivers a fantastic piece of work and sadly do not get near the credit nor respect that they deserve." Excellent band. Excellent Album G. Gonsalves | 11/12/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "Lunatica are truly a rare gem. Not very well known in melodic Prog rock / Metal circles though. I can honestly say that this is one of the only bands in this genre I know of that rivals Nightwish. I actually think (gosh) that I may even prefer this release to the latest Nightwish album (Dark Passion Play), and that is really saying something as that album is awesome! The thing about Lunatica that I love so much, is that they make extremely technical complex (and heavy) tunes so very accessible. This is really a band that you can play to someone who normally only follows commercial channels - and even they are guaranteed to love it. Andreas vocals are crystal clear, crisp and soar beautifully throughout the album. As usual the band have a nice mix of solid rocking prog sounds mixed in with a touch of AOR and one or two souring ballads to boot. John Payne (ex-Asia vocalist) once again makes a guest return, and his duet with Andrea "Farewell my love" is utterly breath taking. Overall I can say that there is not one dud song on the entire album, and I have been playing this CD non-stop for the last few weeks. If you've never heard Lunatica before (or even if you have) you owe it to yourself to give this one a spin. This album is easily as good as both their previous releases, and far superior to most female fronted metal bands I have heard. At the very least this is one that will carry you over until the next Nightwish release (and then some!) Highly recommended." Beautiful voice of Andrea Dätwyler Shiloh Kremer | 05/11/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "Current band members (2009)
