"This set includes three groups. Lucky Thompson plays tenor sax with a trio composed of Ketter Betts and Oscar Pettiford. Another group includes a rhythm section with piano, bass, & drums. The last group features a rhythm section with Jimmy Cleveland on trombone.
These sessions originated on the long gone ABC/Paramount label. It was reissued on Impulse lp's called Dancing Sumbeam. It came out briefly on Impulse disc called Tricotism.
It is my understanding that Mosaic records have plans to reissue this music. Mosaic is not a pirate label like this set and the record company (and artists to the extent that their contracts provide will receive royalties). If Mosaic puts it out, I will buy it again!!
Anyway, Lucky Thompson goes back to the Don Byas school of saxophone. It is kind of a blend between the Young/Hawkin's schools of playing. He plays gently and with consumate taste. This is really a beautiful record. I have it and I am very glad that I do."
