That the rock and soul-oriented Atco label released a record by a Latin dance band and assigned Tom Dowd to engineer it right in the middle of the Beatles explosion in 1965 lets you know just how hot Louie Ramirez's band was! But then, this band was the first new Latin band to gain a real following on the East Coast in many years, and as it was made up of twenty year-olds (most notably vibraphonist Ramirez and co-leader and percussionist Ozzie Torrens), it made sense to tie its fortunes to the Atco label. "It's such a treat to have this on cd. Atco had a few latin recordings in its catalog and this one is one of the better ones. (The others include "Latin Bugalu" by Charlie Palmieri.)

No filler songs here. It's a nice slice of history documenting the transformation that latin bands were going through in the mid 60's. Great essay and great remastered sound. Although not credited one could hear Cheo Feliciano, Felo Brito, Chivirico Davila, Willie Torres and Santos Colon on coro! That's sweet.

Oh! and the band rocks!"
