Forever moving on

"2006's Forever Moving On finds the UK based AOR band Lost Weekend moving from Frontiers to Z Records, but the band's trademark sound is still very much intact. This is a band that obviously grew up listening to plenty of Journey and Foreigner albums.
Forever Moving On is another fine collection of melodic rock love songs. Paul Uttley's steady, midrange vocals set the tone of the album, but behind that voice there are some surprisingly intricate instrumental performances. In particular, some of the guitar solos on this album are quite impressive.
My only complaint at this point is that with four albums to their name, Lost Weekend doesn't seem to be going anywhere with their sound. Sure, the material on Forever Moving On and New Religion is more polished and refined than what you'd find on Presence of Mind or their self-titled debut, but I can't help but wish they'd push the envelope a bit. Perhaps they need to be locked in a room with someone like Dennis Ward who could breathe some new life into their sound.
Still, this is a perfectly good melodic rock album, and one that fans of the band will of course enjoy. Just don't expect to hear anything you haven't heard before.
