A musical triumph in spite of distracting elements

"Lorrie is an artist of considerable talent and originality, and that talent shines brightly on "Simply Grand", particularly with those songs of her own composition. But why has she chosen to include several songs that so obviously detract from an otherwise beautifully flowing collection? I'm sure that her daughter is a wonderful little girl, but to hear her vocalizing on "Castle on a Cloud" strikes a particularly jarring chord. This is something that belongs in a school recital or played at Line family gatherings, not showcased on an album that Ms. Line herself describes as "...doing what I do best, just playing by myself." And in that regard, why did she also include a horn accompanist on "The Prayer"? It's beautifully executed, but it does tend to upset the flow. Also included are covers of the well-known pop tunes, "Norwegian Wood", and "Moonshadow". For anyone old enough to remember these two songs in their pop heyday, their inclusion here, while nicely executed, cannot help but wrench one's awareness from that serene place where her best music has the capability of sending it. It's much the same problem with "Brahms' Lullaby". There are just certain classical tunes ("The William Tell Overture", for example) that over the years have been so thoroughly steeped in the popular consciousness, that one cannot help but hear them in that context, regardless of the musical setting. Despite these distractions "Simply Grand" makes a very worthy addition to your musical library, if you love beautiful and inspiring piano music. The CD includes an album of pictures (viewable with your computer's CD-ROM drive) spotlighting Lorrie's obvious preoccupation with her physical appearance. Also included is a link to her website, which I have yet to visit. All things considered, a very good album. There are fifteen songs in all, so you can afford to bypass the clinkers and enjoy the remaining gems of Lorrie's talent."

"I have Never written to an artist, that has moved me so much by their music. I have had the honor to hear Mrs.Line perform numerous times, the last few times being in Toledo,Ohio. The album(Cd) to be politically correct, is the finest work she has done to this point. I hope and pray you will continue to spread your talent and heart felt music many years to come. Your faithful fan. Carl D.Ogden Panama City Beach Florida, Please have a concert down here. Again, Thank you for your music."
