CD Reviews

On the road to greatness

"Lori's cd is a beautiful debut and many of the songs are outstanding (hardly speaking a word, paying the price, and swallows me whole in particular.) I do have to say, though, that Lori's voice takes a bit of getting used to. Though she's from Boston she has a very folksy, almost country twang. Once you accept this, you will notice that her voice is wonderfully suited for what she writes (small wonder) and the style of her music. Though not every song on this cd is a standout, it's a very promising debut and I'm eager to see how Lori progresses. The good songs on this album are so wonderful I think this album is worth buying and I enjoy listening to it all the way through."

"i was already a fan of lori mckenna when i saw her on oprah with faith hill. personally, i think lori's version (the original) of the song 'fireflies' is waaaay better than faith's rendition. i also like lori's voice better - sorry to any faith fans! mckenna's voice has a folksy, fluttering sound that draws you in - her voice catches and your heart feels that ole pull. her songs are so breathtakingly real and down-to-earth, yet they are lyrical and poetic at the same time.

beautiful work!"

"Lori is very cool. Her waifish voice mixes in perfectly with her pretty/funky/coffeehouse guitar work. The songs hold a statement and everyone rings true. You can't go by this album without feeling something at least once whether it be anger, sadness, happiness or just a sense of righteousness. Her songs have a catchy, folky feeling that seems to bring everything down to a level where you can sit back and just listen. Lori is one of my up most favorites and respected artists and seems to fit my every emotion. Check her out."
