Amazon.comAlthough singer/guitarist Long John Hunter has been on the national scene for only a few years, he has been playing the west Texas bar and dancehall circuit for well over four decades. For a long time Hunter was the undisputed king of the El Paso/Juarez blues scene, playing in one Juarez bar (backed by a group of Mexican ex-bartenders!) for thirteen years. In all that time he only did a handful of obscure recordings, but he has finally begun to get the attention he deserves. John's music is good-time blues, meant for partying and dancing. There is little brooding here, few dark moments. An able guitarist and warm vocalist, he is backed by a tight rhythm section and some blasting horns. The horn section is led by dynamic tenor saxman Mark Kazanoff, who pulls off some of the best solos on the disc. If your taste leans to high energy Texas blues, pick this one up; it'll fit perfectly between your Albert Collins and Gatemouth Brown CDs. --Lars Gandil
