Although singer/guitarist Long John Hunter has been on the national scene for only a few years, he has been playing the west Texas bar and dancehall circuit for well over four decades. For a long time Hunter was the undisputed king of the El Paso/Juarez blues scene, playing in one Juarez bar (backed by a group of Mexican ex-bartenders!) for thirteen years. In all that time he only did a handful of obscure recordings, but he has finally begun to get the attention he deserves. John's music is good-time blues, meant for partying and dancing. There is little brooding here, few dark moments. An able guitarist and warm vocalist, he is backed by a tight rhythm section and some blasting horns. The horn section is led by dynamic tenor saxman Mark Kazanoff, who pulls off some of the best solos on the disc.
