"Lola Beltran is, to many, the Queen of the Rancheras. Relatively unknown among the English speakers of the United States, Beltran's interpretation of Mexican "pop" standards and traditional music spans a broad range of styles. Her voice has the purity of fine crystal and has inspired others from Chavela Vargas to Linda Ronstadt. Buy and listen to the original, and understand why Ronstadt chose to cover so many of Lola's original recordings. One of my favorites, "Soy Infeliz", is the opening music for Almodavar's movie, "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" ("Mujeres al Borde de un Ataque 'Nervios'")--it's GREAT!"
