"This is unquestionably the best performance I have heard of Schubert's last piano sonata. Barenboim gets the first movement in just the right tempo, not too fast or too slow, as is often the case with this movement. As always with Barenboim, I feel there are no unnecessary manipulations by the pianist needing to sound "unique" or "eccentric", I can just enjoy pure Schubert. Barenboim simply feels and gets the Schubertian essence of each and every note of these works, as well as of each piece as a whole, and his music plays naturally and convincingly. I had the previlege of hearing this exact recital program live in Tel-Aviv, on 1994, with Barenboim, who was outstanding as usual. I was so happy to find it later on disc!"
